Leave Johannesburg early for Pilanesberg Nature Reserve, roughly two to two and a half hours away. Two open-vehicle drives cover 4.5 to 5 hours, with guides such as Petrus, Martin, and Desmond explaining the animals and bush. Expect elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, hippos, and perhaps lions or leopards, plus lunch at a rest camp.
